Alice: A Birth Story – Edmonton Birth Photography

There is nothing more exhilarating than receiving a text in the very early morning (like 1am early) that says…”My contractions have started”. I love it. I love the feeling that rushes through my body, the excitement, the anticipation and the joy knowing that I will soon witness another life come into this world. I will say this again and again, I love what I do.

The early morning text from my dear friend Erin came at a bit of a surprise. For a few reasons. We chatted only just hours before and she was certain there were no signs at all of labour coming anytime soon. But we knew it could be any day now as Erin was 3 days past her due date. More importantly she was going into labour on a Saturday which meant that I was going to photograph her birth. I was a back up for another photographer, our friend Kelsy (who was actually my amazing ¬†birth photographer)…she had a wedding on both the Saturday’s around Erin’s due date, so if Erin was going into labour on a Saturday I would photograph it. I was incredibly honoured to help Kelsy out when she needed it!

Alice’s birth was absolutely amazing to watch. It was my first time witnessing a friend give birth and that made it just that much more special. I arrived at the hospital and things were progressing nicely. Erin’s husband Clyaton was amazing, helping her through each of her contractions, always right next to her, providing the strength she needed to have a natural and drug free birth. Erin, you were incredibly strong and amazing to watch. I am so honoured to have been there to document Alice’s entrance into this world. She is so beautiful (Just like her mama!). So beautiful. I can’t wait to watch her grow up. It won’t be long before Alice & Evie are having tea parties together, playing dress up and running around chasing butterflies and picking flowers! (While of coarse their mama’s have their camera’s in their hands!). I can’t wait.

Much love to you and your family and so many thanks to you and Clayton for inviting me into the room the day Alice was born.
