I am so excited to share this post with you. Its been a vision of mine for well over a year and today I am finally here and ready to share it. The first time I thought to myself that I wanted to photograph a birth was when I watched a YouTube video about a natural home water birth. I was 8 months pregnant and I was watching birth videos online to help prepare for my own birth. It was created by a photographer in the states and it was a combination of video clips and photographs. I was left speechless, sobbing and in tears and I was hooked. I wanted to create that for someone else. I wanted to make a new mother feel that way, show her what she had accomplished, give her a way to remember how she felt the first time she saw her baby. And Dad too. I would capture his reaction to seeing his baby for the first time and the proud look on his face when he’s see’s how strong the mother of his new child was. I would capture all the details around the room that they might not remember, the first breastfeed, meeting dad and perhaps older brothers and sisters for the first time and most importantly capture the first hour of their babies life. I would create a gift they would treasure forever. When I was ready and I could make the commitment to what could be a very long photo shoot, I found the most perfect family. Heidi and Cory, Thank You. You opened up your hearts and shared with me something so intimate. I am so proud to have been in that room with you two the day your third child was born. I will never forget it. Heidi you were incredible to watch that day. Blake was Heidi’s third breech baby and second breech delivery, he came feet first. (Which was an incredible sight in itself!). You can read Blake’s full birth story here. Thank you again Heidi and Cory and Congratulations, Blake is absolutely perfect.
A little about me.
Hi there I am Vannessa...that's Vannessa with two n's. I carry my wonderful mother's name, Anne, in my name...a gift from her. I am inspired everyday by the connections people have with those they love. Whether its a newly married couple, an expecting mother or a busy growing family, I take pride in capturing those real and genuine moments. Those moments that only you know about: how you hold your child close or the way you spin them in the office chair to make them giggle. My goal is to capture those moments as if there was no camera there, just you with those you love.
Thank you for taking the time to look around and check out what I have loved doing for the past 4 years. I am a proud mother of a beautiful boy, Harrison and married to the most amazing husband. I specialize in wedding, lifestyle and birth photography in Edmonton, Alberta.
